Are You Considering Granite or Quartz Countertops? |
| Here are the most common questions we get asked — and the answers you’ll need before starting your project. |
1. How much will it cost?Stone countertops are a premium upgrade, and pricing can vary significantly based on both material and fabrication factors. First, The Material Costs

2. Do quartz and granite countertops stain?Yes — both materials can stain, although proper care goes a long way in keeping them looking like new. Granite As a natural stone, granite is porous and must be sealed. The best protection is a professionally applied sealer with a 25-year warranty, which gives you time to clean spills before they absorb. Most stains can be removed with the right products. Quartz Quartz is non-porous and does not require sealing. It is considered low-maintenance, but spills should still be wiped up promptly rather than left sitting for hours. |
3. How easily do quartz and granite countertops chip or break?Stone countertops are very durable, but hard impacts can cause chips. Nearly 50% of service calls are for small chips, most commonly around the sink cutout. The good news: Chips can be repaired, typically for $300–$400, depending on severity. Adding a chip-minimizer edge on the sink cutout greatly reduces the likelihood of damage. This upgrade is approximately $250. |

5. What is the process for replacing my countertops, and how long does it take? The full process generally takes 3–5 weeks. Here is a step-by-step overview: Initial Quote A sales team member provides a detailed estimate based on your layout, material choices, and fabrication options. Make Your Selections You will choose the stone material, sink style, faucet type, and edge profile. A visit to view full-size slabs in person is highly recommended. Template Appointment (1–2 weeks later) A technician will create a computerized template of your countertops. This can be done with your existing counters still in place — just be sure surfaces are cleared. Slabsmith Layout Review (Optional but recommended) For stones with large veining or significant color variation, a Slabsmith appointment allows you to preview and approve exactly how your slabs will be cut. Installation (7–10 days after template) Any tear-out or plumbing disconnect should occur 1–2 days before installation to minimize downtime. Plumbing reconnections (sink, faucet) can typically be completed 24 hours after installation. |
